Simple Gestures and neo 3D landscapes

During the month of October Maleny Artworks Gallery is presenting two major exhibitions by well known Range artists Noela Mills and Phil Gordon.

Noela Mills has put together a series of dynamic ‘landscapes’ of line and texture, expressed through the spontaneous use of brush and paint with honest, simple and noble gestures. Her exhibition - titled Simple Gestures - is a collection of recent works exploring her deep connection with both the Australian landscape, in all its glorious shapes, colours and moods and her focus on Japanese Zen Buddhist aesthetics. In her own way she brings the two together with her personal mix of media and design. These paintings are an absolute delight.

Phil Gordon originally trained in ceramics and sculpture at the University of Tasmania and over the past twenty four years has cycled from 3D to 2D exploring each medium individually. In this latest show – neo 3D landscapes - he has combined the disciplines of paint and sculpture to express the interplay of our culture and landscapes using humour and the absurd as a catalyst for Western cultural icons and consumer victims.

The exhibition will run from 08 October until 04 November - and the works can also be viewed on the Gallery website - http://www.malenyartworks.com/.

A Fantasy of Teapots

The Maleny Arts and Crafts Group must be congratulated on putting together another hugely successful Festival of the Senses over last weekend at the RSL Hall. This association of artisans has grown enormously over the past few years and this exhibition, together with the two fairs they hold each year, is a fine example of the skills and artistic merit of the members.

MACG painters and sculptors presented an excellent three day exhibition of paintings and sculptural pieces as well as several fabric artworks. Held in conjunction with the art show MACG presented the annual Maleny Teapot and tea cosy competition. This was the third annual teapot show with entries coming in from as far afield as Adelaide and Canberra.

The three winners were Sandra Bernaitus with her hand painted porcelain teapot “Sprectrum of Life”, Mieke van Sambeeck‘s creation “Ancient Language” and Chiko Jones’ “Blue Celadon” functional teapot. Christeen Duelberg won the teacosy competition with her amazing “Jest About Time”.

Several hundred people visited the show over the weekend and the Café Mag gourmands kept up a steady service of fine foods on the RSL verandah – a great place to watch Maleny hum along.
Some of the teapots from the competition are now on show at Maleny Artworks Gallery.
